Filing, step by step

Create an account on the Claimant Portal, verify your identity, then file your claim online. For help, call 405-525-1500 or visit an Oklahoma Works office.

When to file and when your claim starts

File as soon as you are out of work. Your benefit year starts on the Sunday of the week you file. You must verify your identity before you can file, and again every 90 days.

What to have ready

  • Your Social Security number
  • Your name, mailing address, phone number and email address
  • Your Alien Registration number and its expiration date, if you are not a citizen
  • Your Oklahoma driver's license or state ID number
  • The company name and address shown on your pay stub or W-2
  • Your start and end dates of work
  • Your wages and how you were paid (hourly, weekly or monthly)
  • Federal workers in the last 18 months: SF-8 or SF-50
  • Military in the last 18 months: DD Form 214

Certify (claim your weeks)

How often: Weekly. File a weekly certification on the Claimant Portal for each week you are unemployed, starting the Sunday after the week ends. It must be filed within 14 days of the week-ending date. Report all work, hours and gross earnings for the week you earned them.

Your first payment

OESC aims to decide eligibility within 21 days after your claim is found monetarily eligible. Benefits go to a Conduent debit card, mailed after your first eligible weekly certification (allow 10 to 14 days). You can set up free automatic transfers to your bank account after you activate the card.

Register for work

Register for a job seeker account on EmployOklahoma and upload and publish a current resume. If your resume is not published, your benefits will stop. Keep your account and resume active.

What applies in every state

  • File with the unemployment program of the state where you worked. If you worked in another state or in several states, the agency in the state where you live now can tell you how to file with other states.
  • It generally takes two to three weeks after you file to get your first payment. Some states require a one-week waiting period, so the second week you claim is the first week paid.

Yes. You must serve a one-week waiting period. The first week you file a weekly certification and meet all eligibility rules is the waiting week, and it is not paid.
