Filing, step by step
Create a WYUI account and file online at wyui.wyo.gov (available 24/7), or call the Claims Center at 307-473-3789 and choose the option to file a new claim. Most people need about an hour. You must verify your identity through ID.me or Login.gov before you can be paid.
When to file and when your claim starts
File as soon as you become unemployed. Benefits begin the week you file, and claims cannot be backdated.
What to have ready
- Your full legal name
- Your Social Security number
- Your work authorization documents, if you are not a U.S. citizen
- Your employment history for the past 18 months: employer names and addresses, dates of employment, and records of earnings (pay stubs, bank statements or tax forms)
- Your DD Form 214 Member 4, if you left military service in the past 18 months
Certify (claim your weeks)
How often: Weekly. File a weekly claim for payment in WYUI ('Continued Claim') for every week you want benefits, even while your claim is reviewed or appealed. Each claim week ends on Saturday; file within 14 days after the week ends. Report hours worked, gross earnings including tips, and vacation, severance, bonus or sick pay.
Your first payment
After your claim is approved and all requirements are met, payments go by direct deposit or to a U.S. Bank ReliaCard, which is mailed to everyone who files.
Register for work
Register at hire.wyo.gov within 14 days after you file. If you live outside Wyoming, register with your state's workforce agency and send DWS proof within 14 days. You may not have to register if you will be recalled within 12 weeks by an employer who paid at least half your base-period wages, or if you are on a union hiring hall's out-of-work list (first 12 weeks).

What applies in every state
- File with the unemployment program of the state where you worked. If you worked in another state or in several states, the agency in the state where you live now can tell you how to file with other states.
- It generally takes two to three weeks after you file to get your first payment. Some states require a one-week waiting period, so the second week you claim is the first week paid.
